You are probably one of those who usually gain a kilo, two, or even more on colder days. What is to blame for this? Festively covered tables, with high-calorie delicacies, which are significantly more abundant in winter, one would say. It’s not the holidays’ fault that it’s like this, although they do help. A vicious circle of causes and their consequences contributes to this. One of the most important reasons is less movement during winter days due to bad weather conditions. Less movement slows down the body’s metabolism and digestion. Staying indoors also affects increased food consumption. Some people “clean” the fridge out of boredom (you will do more good if you take a cloth and clean the fridge with it).
Others adhere to the “myth” that says that we need to eat more in winter because the body uses more energy to maintain body temperature. You’ve probably heard that the more subcutaneous fat we have (the fatter we are), the warmer we are. Unfortunately, we have to disappoint you and tell you that it is in vain that you breed to keep yourself warm. Fat, which helps the body to warm up, is located inside the body and is invisible to the eye. Subcutaneous fat only changes the shape of our body, not for the better. The consequences of overeating are also slowed metabolism, fatigue, and even depression. In this way, we can also explain why we laugh less on winter days, we are often tired, sleepy, and without willpower and strength than we usually do on warmer days.
Tips
– It is important to eat at least five times a day. There should be a break of about three hours between meals. Meals should not be too abundant. An adequate amount of food will protect you from gaining weight, and frequent meals and drinking a sufficient amount of liquid (water, tea in winter) will help the body to function normally and maintain an appropriate body temperature.
– So that you don’t have to change your dress number, use unhealthy “miracle” slimming cures before summer, or panic when you have to wear a swimsuit… we advise you to be active even during the winter days. There are various sports activities, such as fitness, group exercise,… These activities take place indoors, so we are sure that there is something suitable for each of you.
– You can also do many things for yourself at home. Already in the morning, speed up the functioning of the body, even before breakfast and the first coffee. Five minutes of exercise next to your bed, still in your pajamas, can do a lot for your digestion, metabolism, and mental well-being. Exercise three times a week and you will soon see results.
If in one day, we don’t find one hour for ourselves and for our well-being, can we even say that we are “living” life? It’s the time! Time to start looking for reasons to, not excuses, why not to do it. Think of yourself because no one else will do it for you! Not tomorrow, Monday, or after New Year. NOW is the time!
