March 2020 and everything changed in an instant. What seemed impossible became possible. What we believed was so far away and couldn’t touch us, it embraced us. In an instant, we realized how small we and our planet are. China approached us as our first neighbour. But that was as far as it went. The whole world stopped. Daily media reports about deaths, infections, and businesses that are closing down, and, as a result, whole families have no way to survive. Day by day, new instructions from leaders, new measures, people’s doubts, fear, and despair. The fight for survival has begun. People avoid their fellow man, they look around in panic, hoping that they will not meet anyone. They buy abnormal amounts of food in stores, fearing that they will run out. The tension is increasing day by day and with it the uncertainty and fear of the people. The media persistently bombarded us with negative news several times a day, causing us to panic as we had never experienced before.
I felt this fear myself. Above all, I was worried about my family. Countless times a day I thought, if one of us has to get sick, it should be me and not my parents, children, or partner. The ‘pumping’ of the media has brainwashed us so much with symptoms of illness and the like that at one point you are already so paranoid that you notice symptoms of illness in yourself, even though you don’t have them. My brain was playing tricks on me. On the thirteenth day of the epidemic, I had had enough. I wondered where all this was going. Gina, ‘shave’ yourself! End the negativity now! I need to get back to myself and start doing something useful, not lose myself in negativity while time passes without any productivity. I will do something useful for myself, then for my family and for business. A new chapter of my life has begun. For me, all beginnings begin the same way. The start of a calendar year, a week, a new project, an idea, everything starts with a to-do list. I write down what I need to do, at what approximate time. Short-term and long-term goals. Then I take turns. Step by step. I looked in the archive for all the unfinished projects that have been waiting for me for five or more years. Due to work and other obligations, which were priorities all these years, I did not take the time to finish many projects. Finally!
Nothing happens without a reason. What do you do when you get certain information, whether negative or positive? Do you consider what the point of the message you are getting is? Do you have the patience and persistence to take a breath and ask yourself? Maybe it’s just necessary to accept things as they are and wait, what will come out of it?! And it doesn’t have to be bad. It can only be ‘reset’. Resetting and starting something new. Even better than before.
What did quarantine give me?! Everything. Time with family. I play with children, talk, learn, and create. Even the whole day. Unlimited time to do whatever we want. I don’t get woken up by the alarm clock. I take my time to cook (several times I spent half a day cooking). The phone doesn’t ring every 30 seconds, I have Sundays off after a long time. I very importantly sit down and eat meals like normal people. Of course, when I’m at work, it doesn’t exist. I have a full five minutes to eat while standing because the customers are already waiting for me. I don’t even have time to chew. I have to admit, I have come to the conclusion that I am the worst or most demanding boss I have ever had in my soon-to-be forty years of life.
I can admit that I am obsessed with my job. I love to work and I work constantly. I thought there was no other way, it was impossible. But now I know it’s not true. I was in too much of a hurry. Why? I didn’t miss anything even now when I stopped and took time for really important things and people. And if you ask me now, I can say that my hidden wishes have come true. It was what I needed. To breathe. Time for yourself. The family. To think without constant distractions. Corona brought me enlightenment. I can clearly see what is important, what can wait, and what cannot. The only thing she can’t is my family. Everything else can come and go and is insignificant compared to your fellow man.
I love my job and I believe it is my mission on this planet. To contribute to people’s well-being and be a role model for you. To encourage you and when you think it won’t work, I remind you that you can do much more and this is another step closer to our goal.
